One of the biggest films of the year, Bombay Velvet is a neo-noir set in Mumbai of the 1960s, which traces the love story between a boxer and a jazz singer, played by Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma respectively. Due to dramatic changes in Mumbai’s skyline and heritage buildings, it was filmed primarily in Sri Lanka, where the sets recreated India’s maximum city. These will used as a tourist attraction. Parts of Bombay Velvet were also shot in Fort Colombo, whose British and Portuguese architecture resembles south Mumbai’s colonial buildings. The crew also used vintage and imported cars extensively, to evoke with the film’s period setting. Other sections were shot in the country’s famous Yala National Park in Galle, Colombo, Paskudah and a jazz club called Bombay Velvet in Tissamaharama, Before this, Deepta Mehta’s Midnight’s Children and Water were also filmed in Sri Lanka.
